They were pure intellect — a civilization of minds without flesh.
And what happens to psychic energy when it has no body?
It becomes poltergeist‑like.
It becomes autonomous.
It becomes persecutory.
It becomes a force that can only be described in mythic terms.
The Krell destroyed themselves not because they were evil, but because they were disembodied. Their internal objects had no container. Their psychic energy had no home. Their desires had no limit.
They became their own Id Monsters.
This is not science fiction.
This is the schizoid catastrophe.
The child who cannot feel the body becomes a Krell of one.
Morbius: The Man Who Lives in the Vault
Morbius is the inheritor of this catastrophe.
He is courtly, brilliant, articulate — and utterly disembodied.
He lives in his intellect.
He lives in the vault.
He lives in the internal object world.
He cannot feel grief.
He cannot feel dependency.
He cannot feel the body’s truth.
Therefore:
His internal object cannot be embodied in him.
It must find another body.
The Krell machinery becomes the surrogate body.
The Id Monster is the embodiment.
This is the logic of possession.
This is the logic of addiction.
This is the logic of projection.
This is the logic of the mind–body split.
The internal object migrates.
The Therapist’s Golem: A Clinical Prelude
Every therapist knows this moment, though few speak of it:
A session ends, and something is wrong.
A heaviness.
A pressure.
A guilt that is not yours.
A compulsion that feels alien.
A mood that entered the room and did not leave.
You review your notes.
You retrace the hour.
And you realize:
This is not me.
This is psychic energy from the client.
You have become, for a moment, the Golem of their internal object —
the temporary body for a force they cannot embody.
This is not pathology.
This is relational physics.
Internal objects migrate.
They seek hosts.
They seek bodies.
They seek enactment.
Just like the Id Monster.
Just like the Krell.
Just like Morbius.
